Prospector 15 Combi
Quick and maneuverable in a solo position, and smooth and stable as a tandem, this lightweight canoe just got a beautiful upgrade.
With a centre seat in the balance point for quick and efficient high-volume solo tripping, and with tandem canoe seats for trips with a partner, you can outfit your equipment to suit your trip. Add a detachable yoke for the balance point to make portaging quick and easy. Absolutely delighted with my new 15' Prospector combi canoe
I Just picked up my canoe from Swift Algonquin outfitters. I chose the expedition kevlar laminate in Basalt innegra and epoxy build. Added the bow and stern skid plates and opted for the lighter Sassafras thwarts and carrying yolk. With this setup I believe I have the optimum balance of toughness and weight. Such a dream to carry, paddle and pole. Sitting, kneeling semi kneeling all super comfortable. Very stable especially healed over on its side. Very fast and maneuverable. All three seats and carrying yolk are quick detachable so very flexible and quick to switch between tandem and solo paddling. With just the centre seat in it weighs an even 40 lb! I had a good chance to paddle solo up the Oxtongue river and a tandem day trip into the kawartha provincial park with my daughter. Also several solo outings with paddle and pole back home in Nova Scotia. What a dream boat! At 73 years old, lifting and carrying my two cedar canvas canoes (72 and 90 lb!!!) were becoming very challenging so this has given my paddling adventures a second life for many years to come.
I had a hard time choosing between the dedicated solo 14′ prospector and the 15′ combi prospector but in the end the latter won out. I wanted something that could serve both tandem and solo outings and a bit more volume for that as well as carrying a lot of gear for extended solo wilderness tripping. Our rivers, lakes and creeks back in Nova Scotia can get pretty low with lots of rocks hidden in the tannin coloured waters so the toughest build was a given and the higher volume of a 15 footer draws much less water especially when loaded. I am super pleased with my decision on all accounts. A big shout out of gratitude to Carmen Baum of the Swift team for making this all happen.

First paddle with the Prospector 15 Combi
April 24th, 2025 i got to try out my new Prospector 15 Combi. What a great canoe. Super easy to paddle and maneuver. At just over 40 lbs. it transports easy with my Honda Civic. My only regret is not buying one sooner. The middle seat with the carbon footbar was the most comfortable I’ve ever been in a canoe. Can’t wait to get back out there.
